Andrew Lambourne has been involved in live subtitling as a researcher, a product developer, a trainer and a service development champion for 30 years. His pioneering work at Southampton University laid the foundation for fast live subtitling in the UK and Europe based on keyboards ranging from dual QWERTY/AZERTY to Velotype to Stenograph. His company SysMedia then paved the way for the early adoption of speech recognition techniques at broadcasters such as the BBC, Sky and NOS, and since then he has written articles and trained numerous re-speakers both at beginner and at masterclass level. Because the WinCAPS subtitling system is used with Dragon, ViaVoice and SpeechMagic, Andrew has a wide experience of the pros and cons of different tools as well as the challenges of different kinds of live television programmes.
