Aline Remael

Prof. Dr. Aline Remael is Professor Emeritus in Translation Theory, Audiovisual Translation  and Media Accessibility at the Department of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Antwerp and the co-founder of OPEN the faculty’s Expertise Centre for Accessible Media and Culture. Her main research interests and publications are in Audiovisual Translation and Media Accessibility, as well as Translation Theory and, more specifically, the study of translation as a multimodal practice. Her most recent publication (Routledge 2020) is Subtitling: Concepts and Practices, co-authored with Prof. Jorge Díaz Cintas. She has been a partner in numerous European accessibility projects (e.g., ADLAB, ADLAB-PRO, ACT and ILSA) and in 2018 she received the ESIST Jan Ivarsson Award for invaluable services to the field of audiovisual translation.

She has published widely in the above-mentioned domains, and has been a partner in numerous European accessibility projects. She is the co-founder of OPEN, the faculty Expertise Centre for Accessible Media and Culture and in 2019 she received the ESIST Jan Ivarsson Award for invaluable services to the field of audiovisual translation.
